International Society for Plasma Medicine
Founded in 2009, the purpose of the International Society for Plasma Medicine (ISPM) is the promotion of scientific activities, the organization and implementation of scientific meetings and presentations - in particular the International Conference on Plasma Medicine (ICPM), as well as educational/training activities and the recognition of excellence in a spectrum of areas of biomedical applications of gas plasmas that issued into a new discipline: Plasma Medicine.
The ICPM conference is held about every 2 years at altering locations worldwide, guaranteeing its internationality. The first two conferences were organized by A. Fridman and G. Friedman and were held in 2007 - Corpus Christi, USA, and in 2009 - San Antonio, USA when 'The International Society for Plasma Medicine (ISPM)' has been established to support the activities and interests of the growing plasma medicine scientific community. The following two conferences were organized in Europe: ICPM-3 in 2010 in Greifswald, Germany, and ICPM-4 in 2012 in Orleans, France. After conferences in America and Europe, ICPM-5 was organized in 2014 in Nara, Japan, then back in Europe: ICPM-6 in Bratislava, Slovakia. The upcoming ICPM-7 will be held in Philadelphia, USA in June 2018.
Every conference so far was an immense success with ever growing number of attendees. It created a multidisciplinary forum bringing together professionals from all over the world from the fields of plasma physics, medicine, biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, agriculture, and food science and industry. They learn to develop a common language, to better define key challenges and open questions, to further development of international collaborations, and to move toward effective solutions.
As of 2010, a new journal "Plasma Medicine" was founded, published by Begell House. It is the official publication of the International Society for Plasma Medicine.
